“Get Committed”   Contributor: Steve Crabb

I have just finished working with two corporate clients; they are brothers who run a very successful vehicle breakdown and recovery service. For the first time in a series of coaching appointments they have arrived on time and have completed the tasks given to them between coaching sessions.

Which is just as well; as had they been late this time or had they arrived without completing their tasks it would have been their last session working with me…the rule I have is “three times and your out.”? read more

“Agree to Disagree” – Contributor: Steve Crabb

You can not … not be influenced can you?

I was recently invited to give a talk to a group of NLP practitioners, Master practitioners and NLP trainers on the “Art and Science of Persuasion and Influence”. The challenge when presenting such a topic is that the subject means so many different things to so many people, (the map after all is not the territory is it!) so when planning the talk it was important to factor in to my presentation that what the group wanted and needed on the evening would probably be totally different to what I had planned so I decided that the best way to prepare for the evening was to not plan it ahead of time. read more

"The Power to Influence.”– Contributor: Tina Taylor

How do we improve our skills to influence?

Over the years I have had a number of career moves although one main theme throughout has been my ability to “get on with” people.  Today that would be classified as my being able to get into rapport with people.

Prior to setting up my own businesses I worked in Human Resources sector, in Golf Club Management and as a Police Officer in Londons Metropolitan Police Force.  It was as a Police Officer working in Londons East End that I became aware of a skill that was vital to my success, and safety.  When I realised that I had to become a master of influence no matter what it took! read more

“It’s about time isn’t it?”– Contributor: Steve Crabb

Have you ever noticed how time flies when your having fun?

Today is Easter Sunday and this morning we had the traditional Easter egg hunt. Every year we hide lots of chocolate eggs throughout the house and garden and for the special ones (read expensive ones) there are riddles to work out in order to find them. The riddles have been getting more cryptic and the hiding places more creative as my children grow up.

They love it and it is a family tradition, we have been doing for years; well 3 years exactly. Although for my children that is nearly half a life time for my boy Ben and a quarter of a life time for my girls. They talk about how we do this every year as if it’s been going on for ever and to them it has been but from my perspective it’s a blink of an eye. read more

Wake up and smell the roses – Contributor: Steve Crabb

Start to notice the things you hadn’t noticed before now….train your Reticular Activating System to begin to notice what’s good.

I was driving into work this morning thinking about some themes for an article for this month’s newsletter. I parked my car and went into the newsagents to buy a paper; I got back into my car and was reviewing last night and whether to use the Michael Neill event at Alternatives as a central theme. I am off to LA in a few weeks time to help Michael and Paul McKenna with the life transforming super coach programme they are running and he is after all coming to see the practice group on May the 7th so it could provide lots of ideas for an article on coaching, personal enhancement or creating success from the inside out. I was sitting in the drivers seat gazing out of the window considering some of the options when I realised I was staring straight at a woman taking her duck for a walk.  read more

Proactive Pronoia – Contributor: Steve Crabb

Don't let the bastards get you down or how to stay up, up , up in a down down world..

I had arrived early for work, with an hour to spare before seeing my first client I decided to go to the local café over the road from my clinic for a cup of coffee and a bacon sandwich. I don’t remember the last time I had visited the place, I usually use the plush Italian deli coffee shop with the nice rich espresso coffee and the delicious pastries but unfortunately it was the time of day when the mothers gather with the baby rug rats and take over the place. What I really wanted was a bit of space to read my book and relax before starting work and the quiet submodalaties of the greasy spoon were far better by comparison then the noisy screechy submodalaties of the Italian deli/crèche. read more

Working with Children – Contributor: Tina Taylor

Some useful tips to help you when working with children.

Having had quite a few requests from parents who are looking for help for their children, some from parents who have taken their children to other therapists and been disappointment with the outcomes I have been thinking about guidelines for working with children.

When setting up my therapy practice some 10 years or so ago I had a picture in my mind of my clientele and this did not include children.  However, as I began to specialise in working with Fertility issues and helping women achieve painless childbirth it seemed to be assumed that I would also work with children. read more

I don’t understand what the problem was – Contributor: Steve Crabb

Keep your map of the world out of the way and people will give you the solutions to their problems.

Rudyard Kipling’s famous poem “IF” begins:

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

Here is an alternative version:  If you can keep out of your head when all about you are losing theirs …maybe you don’t really understand what the problem is.read more

Death by PowerPoint – Contributor: Tina Taylor

How to start planning a presentation that will be of interest, inspire and be memorable.

Your ability to communicate is the single most important factor in your professional tool bag.  People who make a difference, who inspire others and get promoted are usually those who are excellent communicators.  People who are able to present ideas clearly and convincingly, able motivate and captivate their audience.

The need to communicate is even greater in today’s fast changing workplace; information sharing is becoming the responsibility of many and not just the executives.  Of all the ways you communicate the greatest opportunity you have to make an impact is in the presentation. read more

My Experiences of TFT Contributor: Tina Taylor

Tina tells you about the origins of TFT and how it is a useful tool to add to your NLP toolbox of skills

When Steve and I discussed running a seminar to help you achieve better results when working with people to help them let go of their fears and anxieties; I began to think how best to make use of my experience and expertise to help you improve your success rates.  I use a variety of techniques when working with my clients; including NLP, EMDR and TFT (Thought Field Therapy).

Twenty three years ago, I studied Kinesiology, which is simply the study of muscles and their movements especially as applied to physical conditioning.  By using Kinesiology you can find out if something adversely affects the body for example; checking to see if there are any allergic reactions to foods.  To do this you put the food in question to a person’s cheek or stomach and test a couple of the muscle’s in the arm (these muscles have a connection to the stomach) and if the food causes an allergic reaction the muscles test weak.  read more

The History of Hypnosis – Contributor: Tina Taylor

This is an article on the History of Hypnosis

The phenomenon known as hypnosis has existed since the beginning of recorded history, stories being found in the folklore of many ancient cultures.  In those times as today it was associated with religious ceremonies, magic, the supernatural and the occult.  Even in the 1980’s Dr Richard Bandler (co-creator of NLP) found that his books were filed in the occult section of book stores!

The ancient Egyptians and Greeks had dream centres where people came to fast and pray with the hope that their dreams could be interpreted to solve their problems and guide them to a solution.  We now think that their dreams were probably hypnotically induced.  Magicians in the time of Genghis Khan practiced group suggestion to obtain hallucinations and according to Marco Polo, medieval men used hypnosis in mystic rites to produce fear and intensify beliefs in the supernatural and occult.  With this kind of background it is obvious why peoples belief and attitude towards hypnosis is one of misunderstanding. read more

Not this but THAT… – Contributor: Steve Crabb

When I woke up this morning I looked out of my bedroom window to see the sun was shining in a clear blue winters sky, it’s the end of a very restful holiday and I have two days left before returning to work. Outside my bedroom I can hear the sounds as the household begins to waken, for a few days now we have been getting the children back into their normal routines ready for when they return to school.

My bedroom door opens and my 7 year old son Ben is waving he doesn’t come in he has far other more important things to attend to, for Christmas he got a puppy. read more

Solution States – Contributor: Tina Taylor

Tina explains how to ask great questions to change thought processes.

There are problems with problems, sounds silly I know but if you take that statement literally the major problem with problems is that they force us into thinking that something is wrong.  When in reality the problematic result that we get is the right results for that particular strategy.

So what is a problem?  A problem is a particular result that is different from what you wanted, or the difference between where you are now and where you want to be. read more

Rapport from a (Magical) Performers Perspective – Contributor: John Vincent Hedge

John is a magical performer who lifts the lid on all the real secrets of the top TV mind readers and magicians of rapport.

What does rapport mean? With my entertainers hat on, as a magic man, purveyor of illusion or entertainer, well to him it means getting people into the right place, to lead them with the use of suggestion and influence, with the aim of creating entertainment. Leading people to become a part of an unforgettable experience, leading people into a fun and exciting place for a little escapism and that is what entertainment should be. The reason for gaining rapport with people is to lead them, whether its the purchasing of goods or services or to lead them in the relinquishing of fears and anxieties, toward the gaining of confidence and motivation or indeed for any other purpose.  read more

Logical Levels and Rapport – Contributor: Steve Crabb

Notice how rapport is relevant in Environment, Behaviour, Capabilities, Beliefs and at an Identity level.

I have heard rapport described in many ways, “Trust and Harmony in a relationship”, “A relationship based on mutual trust and understanding”,  “Building trust, harmony and responsiveness in a relationship”. So trust and relationship seem to be common denominators according to definitions but how do we know when we trust and in relationship to what?

Rapport operates on a number of levels and not just consciously or unconsciously. It operates in our environment, we have rapport with others who behave the same as us, and we have rapport with people with similar capabilities, we also have rapport with people who hold similar beliefs and values. Perhaps the ultimate rapport is when we have rapport with our own Identity ; who we perceive ourselves to be. read more

Telephone Rapport – Contributor: Tina Taylor

Tina explains how to gain rapport over the telephone.

Websters dictionary defines rapport as a state of sympathy which permits influence or communication. Rapport is like a dance of communication, and the key is to be subtle.  It’s the process by which we create and develop a positive relationship with another person, it works because people like people who are like themselves.  We want to feel comfortable and are basically herd animals, there are those people we meet and have a feeling that they’re OK – we are comfortable with them and others we meet you can’t wait to get away from.  If we discount body odors the chances are that you were mismatched unconsciously.  What we look for are people like us.  Selling our self by saying to the world “here I am, look at me, this is my system, anyone there using my system?”  Because we feel safe and secure, with people who are like us, who you believe have the same map.  When you match and pace a persons unconscious it allows you to create a connection through which you can lead them into a different state. read more

That’s what the commentator said  “A whopping 4 x100th of a second win” . And he wasn’t being sarcastic!  read more

The Importance of Practice – Contributor: Tina Taylor

Tina explains how and why practice makes better.

The definition of the word Practice in the Collins English Dictionary is to do or cause to do repeatedly in order to gain skill; the art of doing something and a Practitioner is a person who practices a profession or art.  So practice can be viewed as a repeated activity the purpose of which is to demonstrate, establish, reinforce and improve skills.

Ever since I completed my Practitioner Training almost 10 years ago, I have been practicing NLP my goal to improve my skills and ability to use these techniques.  On completion of my first course I was excited about what it could do for me (and those around me) I was hungry for more knowledge, experience and so wanted to improve.  I spent all my spare time reading NLP Books (I purchased everything Richard Bandler had ever written and read and re-read them enjoying every moment) going on trainings, watching videos, listening to tapes and CDs. read more
